Sorry, but GOP created Trump

This is in response to Steve Mongan’s “My Turn” (Monitor Forum, April 8), which stated liberals created Donald Trump. It’s a ridiculous statement, and I am surprised the Monitor gave it such prominent play.

Trump is the direct result of the Republicans trying desperately to find voters as they continue to alienate most “thinking people.” They seem to have discovered that the party of wealthy white men is not going to survive without some additional members, so they found they can pander to those who grew up not raising their hands in class, not participating, not doing their homework and drinking in the parking lot.

These candidates are able to get “the know-nothings” very excited by telling them they are really special, and immigrants are using up all the resources. They are told it’s okay to beat up others and have no knowledge of world affairs or science.

The GOP has also tried very hard to grab the religious right and former Klan members by telling them they have been discriminated against because they are not allowed to force their “Christian values” on the government.

We elected a very well educated, well spoken, thoughtful thinker for a president, and these people have not had anyone to identify with.

No, Mr. Mongan, the Republicans are responsible for Trump, and they worked hard to promote all the values he articulates. They created the monster and now they have to live with it.
