Informed Democrats

In her April 4 letter, “Democrats misinformed,” Marge Welch of Bow asserts that Democrats “have resorted to reading words into our founding document that just aren’t there.” She proceeds to paraphrase the Constitution: “The president appoints a nominee and the Senate advises and consents on the president’s nominees.” So far, so good.

But then she says, “the advice the Senate is giving the president is that he should not move forward with this process.” Wrong.

This is not the Senate speaking. This is Sen. Grassley and other individual Senators – including our own Kelly Ayotte – speaking.

The Senate “speaks” by voting. And this is what I and other informed Democrats are calling on the Senate to do, as required by the Constitution.
