I read with interest the front-page articles by Ray Duckler and David Brooks regarding gender pay inequity (Monitor, April 13).
It was gratifying to see other Concord downtown businesses highlight this annual recognition of the pay disparity between men and women for doing the same job.
We, at Gondwana & Divine Clothing Co., have been offering our goods at a discount equal to the pay gap for almost 20 years. There is progress.
Although the gap was about 25-26 percent in the 1990s, the U.S. pay disparity for the last decade has been almost unchanged at 23 percent. Then it edged toward 22 percent in 2013, and this is the first year it has reached 21 percent.
Yes, the move toward parity is evident, but progress has been at snail speed. The Institute for Women’s Policy Research expects that equal pay will not be reached until 2059.
In the meantime, let’s keep up the fight. More info at pay-equity.org.
