A small brush fire scorched the grassy area behind the Shaw’s supermarket on D’Amante Drive in Concord on Saturday afternoon.
Reports on social media said the fire was burning about 1:30 p.m., and photos showed flames and smoke reaching up toward the power lines.
Behind the supermarket and next to Home Depot, the fire burned a few feet away from the pavement in a secluded area of the parking lot.
The state’s Division of Forests and Lands had issued a “red flag warning,” indicating a high danger of fire, between noon and 8 p.m. Saturday.
The burn left a patch of scorched earth about 100 feet long and 50 feet wide.
The cause of the fire was unclear. Firefighters didn’t return a phone message left Saturday evening.
