It was a clean game on both sides with great defense and pitching on display, but Coe-Brown’s Mallory Perron stole the show.
The junior pitcher spun a three-hit shutout and got more run support than her Kennett counterpart, as the Bears defeated the Eagles, 2-0, on Friday in Northwood.
After starting the season 0-2, Coe-Brown is on a three-game winning streak, while Kennett fell to 1-3.
“It was a great defensive game by both teams,” Coe-Brown Coach Tim Tenasco said. “Mallory pitched a great game. She’s more of a control pitcher. She had great command tonight. She threw 77 pitches and 55 strikes. She set the tone.”
Neither team committed an error, a huge step for the Bears defense, which has struggled so far in this young season. Perron took care of the rest with seven strikeouts and zero walks.
“She’s pitched very well this season,” said Tenasco, commenting on Perron who has started in all five outings for Coe-Brown. “Even in our two losses … we weren’t backing her up and made too many mistakes, until today.”
Perron got run support from fellow juniors Kerry Riley and Sarah Murphy, who both went 1-for-3 and drove in sophomore Drew Stevens, who scored both runs. Riley drove in Stevens in the first and Murphy’s RBI doubled the lead in the third.
