A Weare man was arrested in Dunbarton last week after he ran a stop sign and police discovered he was a certified habitual offender by the DMV.

Police said Travis Chaput, 36, drove through a stop sign at the intersection of Routes 77 and 13 – also known as Page’s Corner – while heading east about 9:30 a.m. April 17.

The four-way intersection is a three-way stop; cars traveling west on Route 77 do not have a stop sign at the intersection.

Chaput was charged with operating while a habitual offender, operating after suspension/revocation, driving without a license, and failing to stop at a stop sign (a violation). Police say if he is convicted, Chaput faces a minimum of one to five years in prison.

Chaput was released on $2,500 personal recognizance bail and will be arraigned in Concord’s district court June 20. Police said his bail conditions include not operating a vehicle.
