Police have recaptured two inmates who escaped the corrections transitional housing unit at the men’s state prison in Concord on Saturday night.
A combined effort between state and local police across New Hampshire and Vermont resulted in the arrest Sunday of Jonathan Ellinger, 46, of Laconia, and Dale Clark, 43, of Concord, in Chesterfield before the duo crossed the border into Vermont.
Police say Ellinger and Clark escaped the minimum security unit through an open window about 9 p.m. Saturday. The two then stole a pickup truck from a Concord business, police discovered through the investigation.
Ellinger is serving a three- to six- year sentence for armed robbery out of Belknap County. He sentence began June 18, 2014, and he was eligible for parole Jan. 3, 2017.
Clark is serving a one- to five-year sentence for theft by unauthorized taking out of Merrimack County. His sentence began Sept. 29 and has a maximum release date of May 10, 2018.
Ellinger and Clark have been returned to state prison and face charges of escape, theft of a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property.
New Hampshire State Police and the department of corrections worked in conjunction with Vermont State police and police departments in Concord, Chesterfield, Tilton, Franklin and Brattleboro, Vt.
