Rail makes sense for N.H.

Having traveled in many of the United States as well as many countries in Europe, I am convinced that a mixed transportation program – trains and automobiles – is the best solution for our state and region, economically and environmentally.

In Freiburg, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany, I have watched blue- and white-collar workers, students and travelers commuting by train. In New Hampshire, that would not only remove automobiles from highways but also provide a stimulus to economic growth to parts of our state, such as the North Country.

The efficient movement of labor by train to regional areas of industry, manufacturing, education, etc., means businesses don’t have to relocate while workers can return wages to their local communities.

I am also convinced that train travel – particularly with connections to Montreal – will provide a tourism-based increase in revenue.

Ultimately, ease of access afforded by rail transportation is good, common sense for New Hampshire.
