The Suncook Valley Chorale will present its spring program, “All Songs Bright and Beautiful,” this weekend at First Congregational Church of Pembroke.
The program promises a mix of classical and pop, hymns and foreign language pieces, all with a theme of earth and creation, said publicity chairwoman Holly Ares Snyder.
Snyder has been a member of the chorale for about five years. She said she joined because when she moved back to the area she found out Scott Lounsbury was the director.
“Scott was my high school choral director,” she said. “He was one of my favorites.”
Lounsbury is currently the choral director for Shaker Regional School District.
The Suncook Valley Chorale is made up of more than 60 singers of all ages from all over. So what’s the draw for members?
“Our motto is ‘Sing for joy,’ and we take that pretty seriously – or not seriously as the case may be,” Snyder said. “Also, we are a non-auditioned group and I think that makes it less intimidating for folks who love to sing, but don’t have a lot of technical experience.”
Snyder said many members find their way to the group through friends and family members but also there are many in the group who have been around for a long time. The chorale has been around for about 33 years, and some members have been with them most of that time, she said.
The performances this Friday and Saturday (at 7 p.m.) will last about an hour-and-a-half to two hours and include 17 pieces of music. Snyder said the group is eager to see people at the shows – and in the group.She said they hold open sings in September.
“And we’re always looking for tenors and basses especially.”
