I am touched by the many heartrending stories of those who have losses to the current opioid epidemic and believe that the current attention to it by newspapers, radio and television will save lives.

However, when I look back to the inflammatory tone of the press when the same crisis was located in our inner cities, it convinces me that the press is led by current opinion rather than leading it.
