The youth in the Sanbornton Congregational Church UCC decided that to participated in a Heifer International fundraiser called, “Read to Feed.”  They asked the younger children in the church to join them in this program. Their goal is to raise $500 for a heifer by June 5.

Each child or youth will receive a packet containing a reading log and a sponsor sheet. A younger child might look at picture books, or a youth may read a novel.  Readers will record their reading in time or pages, and parents will verify. Church members will sponsor the children and the youth, and will agree to an amount to be paid for each page or minute spent reading. This program encourages reading, while at the same time helps the children and the youth to recognize how their actions can make a difference in the lives of others.

Heifer International has partnered for more than 70 years with communities to help individuals improve their sustainable livelihoods for small-scale farmers, especially women.

The children at the Sanbornton Congregational Church UCC have a webpage at heifer.org under fundraisers called “Winnisquam Readers” where you can make a donation. For more information, call 286-3018.
