A tick trick

I enjoyed the story “Talking Ticks” by David Brooks in your May 3 issue.

I have removed many wood ticks from my body. My old method was unsatisfactory, leaving a raised sore that itched for 10 or more days. Now, before grasping the tick, I rotate my hand clockwise as far as possible, grasp the tick’s body, unwind my hand and pull gently. The tick comes off my skin easily without taking any of my flesh. It appears that these insects “screw” in, and one can “unscrew” them with ease.

I am 90 years old, have a bachelor of science degree from the University of Maine, class of 1951, and am fairly observant.

Try it the next time you get a wood tick on you.
