The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office has joined the investigation into Kyle Tasker, the former state representative charged with attempting to lure a teenage girl into a sexual encounter.
While the Rockingham County Attorney’s Office had the sole jurisdiction over the prosecution of Tasker’s case, the Attorney General’s Office got involved because of possible issues of “public integrity.”
The former representative of Rockingham County’s District 2, which includes Nottingham, Candia and Deerfield, was arrested in early March and charged with three drug offenses and one count of using a computer to lure a child.
Attorney General Joe Foster confirmed his office’s involvement this week.
Media outlets reported that Tasker allegedly kept a ledger of names, including some state legislators, who purchased marijuana from him.
Prosecutors say Tasker communicated with a 14-year-old girl on Facebook and offered to buy her alcohol and marijuana in addition to proposing sexual contact.
The exchanges reached a new level when Tasker proposed meeting up with the girl at a secluded beach area near Lucas Pond in Nottingham. When Tasker arrived at the pond, officers from Nottingham, Northwood and the state Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force swarmed in. A loaded semi-automatic handgun was retrieved from inside of his car, as well as marijuana, a glass smoking pipe and a bottle of alcohol, according to police.
A search of Tasker’s home uncovered “vast amounts” of controlled drugs, including marijuana, hallucinogenic mushrooms and Suboxone, according to a police affidavit.
Tasker and his attorney haven’t commented on the charges.
