High school tournaments todayBoys’ tennisDivision I semifinalsNo. 3 Derryfield (14-1) at No. 2 Concord (14-1), 4 p.m. at Memorial Field
Head to head: The teams did not meet in the regular season.
Previous tournament games: The Crimson Tide beat No. 7 Pinkerton, 6-3. Derryfield downed No. 6 Hanover, 8-1.
Notes: This is a rematch of last year’s semifinal, a thrilling 5-4, come-from-behind victory for Concord. The teams aren’t exactly the same this year, but there’s no doubt both teams remember what happened last year at Derryfield. This time, the match will be on Concord’s home courts at Memorial Field, a place that usually plays in the Tide’s favor. Concord beat Pinkerton in the first round despite losing its No. 4 player, Sebastian Hart-Meyer, during the pre-match warmups. Whether or not Hart-Meyer can play, and how the Tide adjusts its lineup, will likely have an impact on the match.
Division III semifinals roundNo. 7 Inter-Lakes (10-5) at No. 3 Kearsarge (12-3), 4 p.m. at Colby-Sawyer College
Head to head: The two teams did not in the regular season.
Previous tournament games: Inter-Lakes upset No. 2 Bow, 6-3. Kearsarge beat No. 6 Portsmouth Christian, 5-4
Notes: The Lakers lost three of their last four matches, yet managed to pull off the upset over Bow in the quarterfinals, so this is a No. 6 seed not to be taken lightly. Kearsarge used singles wins from the lower half of its ladder – No. 3 Jack Van Etten (8-4), No. 4 Charlie O’Connor (8-2), No. 5 Matt Hubley (8-0) and No. 6 Sam Williamson (8-6) – and a clutch doubles won from Van Etten and O’Connor to beat Portsmouth Christian. It was the first playoff experience for many of the Cougars, so their nerves should be quieter for this round.
