As I read Robert Azzi’s Memorial Day column (Sunday Monitor, May 29), I thought of a saying of my late father, a decorated combat veteran. Dad often said, “Empty barrels make the most noise.”
As a military veteran myself, I was disgusted to read Azzi’s column. His article was mostly a copy-and-paste diatribe of his previous writings.
Azzi has no idea what sacrifices our military veterans and their families have endured.
Memorial Day is a sacred time in our country. It is a time of reflection and remembrance. It is a time of respect and gratitude for our veterans. A time to honor those who have given their lives for our freedom. A time best spent in quiet prayer.
Instead, Azzi used his Memorial Day column for political lambasting of Donald Trump and claiming white Americans are fearful and are “yearning for a Judeo-Christian all-white nation populated by Donna Reed and Beaver Cleaver.”
An empty barrel making loud noise can really hurt your ears.
