New Hampshire Spaying and Altering Service is a nonprofit in existence since 1977, whose purpose is to help people afford the cost of the spay/alter operations. Tens of thousands of animals have been sterilized since its inception. Much more needs to be done, especially for felines and because New Hampshire is continuously bringing dogs from the South, where there are very high shelter kill rates.
The operations are routine and totally safe for healthy dogs and cats.
It is vitally important that all rescue groups and shelters make sure that all animals in their care are spayed and neutered before they are adopted out, which is where eight-week sterilization comes into play.
Veterinarians are desperately needed in all New Hampshire areas to perform reduced-rate spay/neuter. By joining NHSAS, you will be helping to end dog and cat overpopulation, providing a valuable service and gaining new clients. The paperwork involved is miniscule and you will be getting two to six customers per month.
If you truly wish to be a โfriend of animals,โ adopt a big, old (especially black) dog or an older black cat at an animal shelter. Most people want the cute puppies and kittens, and little โdesignerโ dogs. With your adoption fee, you help many other animals, including the victims of hoarding and cruelty.
For financial help with spaying and altering of your dog or cat or to become a part of NHSASโs program, phone 224-1361.
