EAST SIDE Christmas parade is already in the works

Today is your last chance to see “Higgedly, Piggledly,” a production of four comedic one-acts by playwright Donald Tongue at the Hatbox Theatre in the Steeplegate Mall. The Concord Christmas Parade Committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the home of Dick Patten, 30 Pinewood Trail. The parade is scheduled for Nov. 19 at 9:30 a.m. on the Concord Heights. The theme for the first division is observance of the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor, and the theme for the Christmas floats will be a Futuristic Christmas in 2116 and Beyond. Tickets are now on sale for the GoodLife Programs and Activities under the stars. More than 100 people are expected to attend the third anniversary celebration to be held June 23. The event will feature a delicious buffet dinner under a festive tent, summer refreshments including wine and beer, a 50/50 raffle, silent auction, and live entertainment from jazz pianist Tom Robinson, an instructor at the Concord Community Music School. Once again they will be presenting an award for the GoodLife Senior Advocate of the Year. The event will take place between 5 and 9 p.m. at GoodLife which is located at 254 N. The Concord Farmers Market will be open Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to noon and is located off of Capitol Street in downtown Concord. The event offers 40 vendors, including meat, eggs, dairy, fruit, vegetables, fish, honey, bakery and maple products. Also featured is potted plants, cut flowers, wood products, dog treats, and body care products.

Registration is now open at ConcordPublicSafety.org; teams of 10 individuals will face off against a 45,000-pound city of Concord reserve fire truck. Registration is limited to 20 teams, who compete for the fastest time. The starting horn sounds at 10 a.m. as teams show their strength by pulling the truck along a section of Main Street during the Market Days Festival. First responder teams receive free registration, nonprofit/friends teams register for $100/team, and business/gym team registration is $200/team. Sponsor opportunities are also available.
