Regarding this weekend’s domestic terrorism in Orlando, Kelly Ayotte tweeted: “My heart goes out to the victims of this horrific attack and their families, those who were injured, and the brave first responders who saved lives. My thoughts and prayers are with the Orlando community in the wake of this terrible tragedy.”
Ayotte’s words are rendered meaningless by her fundraising record: New Hampshire and Maine have the disgraceful designation of being the only states in New England whose congressional delegations continue to receive money from the NRA.
Despite Ayotte’s crocodile tears, she has accepted $4,950. Her compatriot Frank Guinta, who received the astounding sum of $21,350, has yet to issue a statement on the attack. His NRA handlers probably haven’t approved one for him yet.
Instead of tweeting their thoughts and prayers, I think it’s time we voters demand Ayotte and Guinta donate their $26,300 to one of the constituencies affected by this assault weapon enabled hate crime. Their Tea Party “consciences” probably won’t allow them to consider any LGBT related causes. Their NRA bosses would surely object to supporting any funds that aid victims of gun violence.
Perhaps their conservative hearts wouldn’t find a first responders fund objectionable? What do you say, Frank and Kelly? Will you donate $26,300 to an Orlando trauma unit? Perhaps the Florida Red Cross? Or should we voters feel comforted knowing, sure, you’re NRA-funded, but (one of you) took the time to tweet how sad your heart is following a hate-motivated mass murder?
