The New England Patriots signed third-round draft pick Jacoby Brissett, the team announced Thursday.

The former North Carolina State quarterback was the last pick to sign with the team. Terms were not disclosed.

Brissett would be elevated to Jimmy Garoppolo’s backup if Tom Brady’s four-game deflategate suspension is upheld – and if the Patriots don’t bring in any other quarterbacks. The case is working its way through the federal courts.

Brissett transferred to North Carolina State after playing two seasons with the University of Florida. He was named the Scout Team Player of the Year by the Wolfpack as a junior after he missed the full season due to the NCAA’s transfer rule. It was reported soon after the draft that Brissett still traveled to every Wolfpack away game but one that year, despite not being allowed to travel with the team.

He finished his senior season with 2,000-plus yards passing and 20 touchdowns to go along with 370 yards rushing and six more touchdowns on the ground.
