PolitiFact bias

On June 10, the Monitor printed a PolitiFact piece by Louis Jacobson concerning a statement Donald Trump made on June 7, that “crime is rising.”

PolitiFact quoted a number of studies and concluded that Trump was not merely lying, rather his pants were on fire – so bold, outrageous, ignorant, reprehensible, baseless, and so utterly and completely false was his statement.

And yet, in the Monday June 6 edition on page A6, a headline appeared on an Associated Press article by Lisa Marie Pane and Don Babwin announcing that “U.S. cities see rise in violent crime.” Perhaps Trump was referencing the AP article in his Tuesday statement.

So what are we, the readers of your paper, to conclude: 1. PolitiFact is just as biased as every other news source and equally sloppy in its research, picking only those sources that agree with the personal opinions of the writer; or, 2. The AP’s collective pants are also on fire; or 3. The Monitor itself is not doing a good job at presenting balanced news.
