After reading the article in the Concord Monitor regarding the perceived death of the local music scene and then the response letter as seen on Yourband.info, we took time to reflect on views of both individuals.
We agree and disagree with aspects from both articles, however, feel it is important to point out that the local music scene in Concord is very much alive and thriving.
The Granite State Music festival brought people to Concord to have the opportunity to see their favorite local bands. It was successful in the sense that it brought people in the community together for a weekend full of talented, hardworking musicians and wonderful music.
In the past, we have helped fund and donated our time to volunteering for the event and regard it as a positive experience. Despite the lifespan of this festival, Concordโs local music scene has continued to grow and flourish because of its local musicians, local businesses, and the people who come out to events. There is live music every weekend at multiple locations downtown as well as emerging talent found at the open mic events.
Regardless of your views on the specifics of what the local scene is or isnโt, it is important to get out there and support the scene by going to shows and buying local music. Be proactive and help it continue to thrive.
Go to events, support downtown events, and make the most of the events that so many people work hard to create for you.
