Police have opened an investigation following an Independence Day road rage incident in Belmont where a gunshot was exchanged between two vehicles.

Belmont police said the incident occurred about 7:40 p.m. on Route 106 Monday. The report came from one motorist who dialed 911 and said a bullet had been fired from a car’s rear window into another car after some sort of road dispute.

Police later recovered the bullet that was lodged in the victim’s vehicle. Nobody was hurt in the incident.

Preliminary investigation led Belmont police to a person of interest in Nashua. They conducted an interview there, which lead to police serving a search warrant. A firearm and ammunition were seized as evidence.

Police said the investigation is active and ongoing. Laconia and Nashua police departments are assisting. Police are requesting anyone with information to call Belmont police at 267-8350.
