A three-unit home caught fire in Weare on Monday night, displacing at least three adults and two children.
One adult, two children and their pets lived in the second-floor unit where the fire originated at 325 North Stark Highway, said Weare fire Chief Robert Vezina. They are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
The residents in that unit told firefighters that the fire started after an air conditioner fell from a bedroom window on the front of the house onto the roof over the porch.
The second-floor bedroom where the fire originated was completely burned out. Vezina said any possessions in that room are a complete loss. The first floor sustained heavy water damage.
The third unit of the home is vacant.
Firefighters were still dousing hotspots on the roof about 9:30 p.m. The call first came at 8:22 p.m., and flames were visible when firefighters arrived.
The home was taped off Monday night and deemed unlivable due to water and smoke damage as well as a compromised electric system.
The fire remains under investigation.
Fire departments from Bow, Henniker, Goffstown, Hopkinton, Dunbarton and New Boston also responded to the call.
