A man riding a motorcycle was injured early Friday night at the intersection of Hoit and Mountain Roads and taken away by ambulance.
A spokesman for the Concord Police Department said the crash remained under investigation. No information had been released by press time, and a spokeswoman for Concord Hospital said she had no listing of anyone hurt in a motorcycle crash.
Photos obtained by the Monitor showed a man in blue jeans lying in the intersection, his motorcycle a few feet away. A pair of glasses and a rolled up children’s blanket were also visible.
A woman living near the crash site who declined to be named said she arrived at the scene before rescue personnel and called 911. Others had also stopped to help, the woman said.
She said a man told her the accident was a hit and run, adding he’d chased a white car before returning to the intersection. The woman said she asked the injured man his name and was told “Steve.”
“There was a lady already there holding his head,” the woman said. “He was stoic, in pain. People were just trying their best to help the gentleman on the ground.”
A man living across the street on Mountain Road, Roy Farwell, said cars were backed up and turning around in his driveway. He said the man lay in the middle of the intersection, which has stop signs on Hoit Road and a blinking yellow light above. The speed limit on Mountain Road is 40 miles per hour.
Farwell said cars routinely zoom past his Mountain Road home at 60 mph, creating a dangerous area when combined with the stop signs on Hoit road.
“People who make turns at the stop sign can’t judge how fast the cars coming toward them are going to get there,” Farwell said. “It’s quick. Too quick.”
Farwell said there’s been at least a dozen accidents at the intersection since he moved in 10 years ago. He said two cars had collided there on Thursday.
“I can’t believe they haven’t done something to alleviate this,” Farwell said. “They’ve got to monitor this better. They’ve got to do a better job over there.”
