In the Aug. 10 Concord Monitor opinion piece “Two good reasons to vote for third-party candidate,” an incredibly strong case was made for voting Libertarian. Sadly, many readers, while agreeing with the merits of the Libertarian ticket, will not vote for Libertarians as they do not want to “throw their vote away.”
Here is why voting Libertarian in the upcoming election is not throwing your vote away.
You are voting for what you want, not what you don’t want. The lesser of two evils is still evil. The Nazis came into power under similar circumstances.
The major parties do not want to listen to you. Politicians believe they know what is good for you and you do not. They want to “save” you from yourself. However, politicians live on poll numbers, voter research information, etc., and will take your vote into account at some level. Once Libertarians exert an influence on the big two parties, we will see positive change toward freedom.
Voting Libertarian will reduce the chances of us being dragged into yet another senseless war. Plus, we will see a gradual movement toward having low-level marijuana use legalized, thus freeing up the police and courts to focus on real crime.
Libertarians will slowly get the government out of your bedroom and bathroom, and make real progress toward getting the economy back on track and clean up Obamacare.
