The fundraising committee of the Concord High Class of 1953 thanks all of its class members for their very generous contributions to the scholarship fund for graduating Concord High seniors. At its recently held 63rd reunion, the class raised $3,120 in a single day – a new class record.
The class has given scholarship aid every year continuously since 2003 and it had made contributions to the high school media center at three other previous reunions. Ginger Beck Sanborn of Chichester has been the general chairwoman of the reunion committee for many years. Other committee members have been Sonja Benson Hannah of New London; Janice Drewry Locke of Bow; Charles Tseckares of Winchester, Mass.; Ted Sanborn of Chichester; and Freda Spiro, Bill Moran, Lorraine Guimond, Tom Lanza and Marilyn Nicholas Dupuis, all from the capital city region.
Other committee members from the Concord area have been Paul Berwick, Arline Johnson Estabrook, Annlee Fenton Edes, Lucille Marden Randall and Betty Kilgore Hoadley. Lucille Morin Stevens from Rochester and her husband have served as class photographers.
Rae Hurd McBride and Jim Cleveland, both of Concord, along with Locke, Spiro and Hoadley, have served on the fundraising committee. They want to acknowledge the cooperation and assistance of Steve Rothenberg at Concord High School and staff members who have aided in selecting the recipients and awarding the scholarships. The award has grown from the first award of $500 to two $1,000 scholarships for the last two years. This year 33 classmates and 17 guests attended the class reunion and, again, the collection baskets were passed.
The Class of 1953 Fund is held and managed at the school district’s main office. Contributions may be sent to Jack Dunn, c/o Concord School District, 38 Liberty St., Concord 03301. Other graduating or graduated classes are urged to set up their own funds and awards.
So to all the members of the Class of 1953, thanks a million for still another fundraising record. Letters of thanks from recipients are read at every reunion and it has been heart-warming to know how much these graduates appreciate help and support.
