I am writing to express my support for Democratic candidate Steve Marchand in the upcoming gubernatorial primary on Sept. 13.
Steve is an innovative thinker and a true progressive. He supports full funding of public schools; paid family leave to care for a newborn, sick child or a dying family member; a womanโs right to full control over her reproductive choices; Medicaid expansion; investment in green energy; and rebuilding our state infrastructure.
Steve knows these public investments strengthen communities, improve quality of life and from his years of working with business leaders across the state, attracts private investment and business growth. Steve is the only Democratic candidate who is 100 percent against Northern Pass.
While other candidates propose meeting state revenue shortfalls through more cuts to essential programs, Steve proposes utilizing the experience of other states to solve the funding crisis: through the legalization and taxation of the adult use of marijuana. Steve believes innovative ideas like this will prevent the need for a broad-based tax and relieve the increasing burden borne by property owners.
Steve is a lifelong New Hampshire resident who has the education and experience to be the ideal executive officer for this great state. He has been an active public servant, serving as mayor of Portsmouth, where he was a leader in climate change reduction efforts and received statewide accolades for his fiscal responsibility in meeting the cityโs needs.
