Penacook village is filled with flowers, from community garden spaces to containers in front of local businesses. On Sept. 7 about 8:30 a.m., Robert Gabrielli was maintaining the flowers in the center of the rotary, a spot he’s “adopted.”
He planted the flowers, donated by Murray Farms, in the spring. He stops by at least weekly to weed. There’s now a sprinkler system installed and supplied by the city, but prior to that, he would run hoses from his building on the corner of Merrimack and Village streets to make sure the flowers were watered. When first planted, the flowers need water daily; then weekly after that.
Other volunteers have adopted Poulin Park, mow the lawn around the Civil War memorial and care for other spots.
“We’re making Penacook beautiful,” Gabrielli said.
