Family and consumer science students in Mrs. Bodine’s class at the Weare Middle School have been learning how to cook using less sugar and fat for healthier versions of old favorites.
Seventh-graders recently tried their hand at making individual apple pies using the apple as the base of the pie. First, students scooped out the apple flesh and then chopped the flesh up and mixed it with apple cider, a bit of sugar and spices. They made a mini traditional latticework top crust and placed it on top of their apple pie. The results were delicious and contained 3 grams of fat and 131 calories.
