For the next 10 years, every New Hampshire taxpayer will be sending $300 in foreign aid to a wealthy nation, Israel. This is part of the $38 billion financial package that the Obama administration has promised Israel. The previous arrangement was for a mere $30 billion over 10 years. This $38 billion will account for almost half of all U.S. foreign aid.
Not content with this $38 billion, a cabal of U.S. senators, including John McCain, Lindsey Graham, and their protégé, Kelly Ayotte, are pressuring Obama to increase the amount to $45 billion. Moreover, all three opposed the accord with Iran to end its plan to develop a nuclear weapon. Yet, nowhere did I hear that Israel has between 150 to 200 nuclear bombs and missiles.
The Institute for Research: Middle Eastern Policy just commissioned a poll by Google Consumer Surveys that indicated that almost 81 percent of people who use the Internet would take that $38 billion and use it for veterans’ care, education, reducing our debt and rebuilding our national infrastructure.
As a N.H. citizen and a U.S. Navy veteran, I think it is immoral to give Israel the proposed $38 billion in military aid. Gideon Levy, Israeli columnist for Haaretz, says:
“Some of the money will go for defense systems but another part will go for maintaining the occupation and especially to fund violent showy actions, in Gaza and Lebanon.”
