A Weare man accused of using a computer to solicit sex from a teenage girl and her mother remains behind bars.
Donald Malette, 38, was arraigned Wednesday morning in Goffstown’s district court, where a judge upheld bail at $50,000. He was ordered to have no unsupervised contact with children, including his own kids.
Malette is the president for Strategic Benefit and Insurance Advisors, and previously coached softball in his hometown, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Police say Malette posted an ad on Craigslist this past June in an attempt to initiate a sexual encounter. What he did not know is that an undercover federal agent had responded to the ad, posing as a woman with a 14-year-old daughter.
He faces felony charges of certain uses of computer services prohibited and falsifying evidence.
Police allege Malette deleted an email account – timetoteachher@yahoo.com – to cover his tracks when he became suspicious of a possible undercover investigation.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security opened an investigation into Malette’s activities this past summer. It was later turned over to Weare police when they learned federal charges would not be warranted because Malette did not travel to meet any minors.
Malette is next scheduled to appear in court Oct. 27 for a probable cause hearing.
