Ayotte’s silence

In August, I sent Sen. Ayotte a letter, which implored her to take a leadership stand on two items of concern to me.

The first was to express a clear position on GOP candidate Donald Trump and whether she would vote for him. The second was to move forward and not impede President Obama’s nomination to fill the vacancy for a Supreme Court justice. To this date, I have not heard back from Sen. Ayotte or her staff on either of my concerns.

Now, within 30 days of the election, she has addressed my first item of concern and publicly renounced Trump and said she will not vote for him. It is too bad that her position change required evidence of character flaws from information dating from 2005 and not the statements that the candidate has made in the last six months.

These include the comment by Trump that he could commit a felony by shooting someone in the middle of New York City and still have the support of Americans to elect him president.

Why would a sitting U.S. senator not find that statement sufficient to immediately withdraw all support for this candidate?

As to my second item of concern involving moving forward with President Obama’s nomination of a replacement for former Supreme Court Justice Scalia, I am still awaiting her response.

I guess her silence speaks volumes regarding what this country really needs from both parties to move this country forward. This is very troubling to me as a registered Republican and a citizen.

Speak up, Kelly Ayotte, and be a leader!
