Mookie Betts became the seventh player in Boston Red Sox history to win a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger award, when Major League Baseball announced the winners of the 2016 Silver Slugger awards Thursday.
Recently retired David Ortiz also took home the award, his seventh, while Xander Bogaerts collected the second Silver Slugger of his career.
In his final season, Ortiz hit .315, 38 home runs and drove in 127. Betts, who is also an MVP finalist, finished with a .318 batting average, 31 home runs and 113 RBI. Bogaerts, 24, hit .294 with 21 long balls and 89 RBI.
The winner of the MVP award will be announced Nov. 17 on MLB Network.
