The Shaker Regional School Board officially appointed Michael Tursi as permanent superintendent for SAU 80 Tuesday night.
Tursi was originally announced as interim superintendent for Belmont and Canterbury students at the beginning of the school year. A committee of parents, teachers, SAU staff, school board members and other community members conducted a search early this fall, in which Tursi was one of two finalists.
The search was announced following former superintendent Maria Dreyer’s retirement after four years at Shaker Regional School District.
Dreyer decided to move to Florida to be closer to her family.
Tursi comes to the position with some practice. He previously served as the superintendent for Milton and Wakefield students for three years in SAU 64, and before that, he acted as assistant superintendent for the Manchester school district.
As interim superintendent, Tursi has been salaried at $112,500 – Dreyer was making $120,000 before she retired.
SAU 80 business administrator Debbie Thompson said Tursi’s salary as permanent superintendent is currently under negotiation.
