President-elect Donald Trump kicked off his “Victory Tour” with a rally in Cincinnati. Corporate polluters and their allies are among those celebrating in anticipation of a business-as-usual administration as Trump plays puppet to fossil fuel companies and takes his cues from congressional climate deniers like Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
But Trump could use a vocabulary lesson. He did not actually win the popular vote, and has no mandate to wage war on public health. Americans did not vote to roll back the Clean Air Act and other critical public health safeguards.
Trump’s climate denial and his intention to rig the system in favor of fossil fuel companies will endanger public health, threaten national security, and deny our children and grandchildren a safe and sustainable future.
Senior military officials warned this week that climate change is set to cause a refugee crisis of “unimaginable scale,” leading to “a humanitarian crisis of epic proportions.”
Facts like these trump denial. More than 2,300 scientists, including 22 Nobel Prize winners, sent an open letter to Trump and the 115th Congress, urging them to “adhere to high standards of scientific integrity and independence in responding to current and emerging public health and environmental health threats.” Follow the facts, not the polluter lobbyists and Washington insiders.
