The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of a fire in Nottingham on Friday night that left one woman dead.
The Nottingham Fire Department responded to 176 Stage Road at 9:20 p.m. to find the single-family home ablaze. While crews were able to rescue an adult male, heavy fire conditions prevented them from getting to the woman.
She has yet to be identified. The state medial examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The man was taken to Exeter Hospital for treatment.
Preliminary findings show the fire began in a first floor bedroom and spread rapidly through the house, according to the fire marshal.
