A Manchester man is facing a cruelty to animals charge after his dog was found tied to a tree in the woods in Bow.

Ronald Wiggin was arrested by Manchester police on a Bow police warrant Sunday following an investigation into a dog found abandoned in the woods around Vaughn Road in Bow on March 29. The dog was spotted by a passer-by and was taken to the Pope Memorial SPCA, where it will remain for the time being, according to a press release.

Wiggin was released on $500 personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear in Concord Circuit Court at 8:30 a.m. May 15. He is facing one misdemeanor charge of cruelty to animals.

It is unclear why police believe Wiggin abandoned the animal. The public had a strong reaction to the case; a post on the Bow police Facebook page on March 29 asking for information related to the dog’s abandonment garnered 10,577 shares and 4,186 comments.
