Thank you posting Donald Trump’s tweet of Oct. 9, 2012: “Now that Obama’s poll numbers are in a tailspin – watch for him to launch a strike on Libya or Iran. He is desperate” (Sunday Monitor Forum, April 9). Donald Trump could easily be “desperate” because of very low poll numbers, plus it’s another distraction from investigations.
On August 2013, Bashar al-Assad “crossed the red line.” Over 1,000 civilians were killed in chemical attack in Ghouta, Syria. After immediate pressure from Congress, President Barack Obama did the “legal” thing by seeking authorization from Congress for retaliatory strike. More than 100 House Republicans signed a letter to Obama stating it is unconstitutional to attack a sovereign nation without congressional approval. Mitch McConnell railed to the Senate against retaliation. McConnell went on to say “the unintended consequences of this strike could very well be a new cycle of escalation.”
The pictures of the dead babies were truly horrifying and heartbreaking. Like most everyone, there is nothing I like better than to see a two-bit dictator cut off at the knees. But I find Trump’s “conversion” suspect.
Moral principle or expedience?
