A Concord man is charged with causing the death of a 21-year-old Pembroke woman by giving her fentanyl, a powerful opiate, the state attorney general’s office said.
Morgan Chapman, 31, was indicted last month by a Merrimack County grand jury on the charge, which “carries a possible maximum sentence of life in state prison with the possibility of parole,” according to a statement issued Tuesday by Attorney General Gordon MacDonald and Pembroke police Chief Dwayne Gilman.
The woman, Violetta Monastyrskaya, died April 2 at her home on Buck Street in Pembroke, according to her obituary. She was born in Russia in 1995, moved to Pembroke at 5 years old and graduated from Pembroke Academy.
Nearly 500 people in New Hampshire died from an overdose last year, with the synthetic opioid fentanyl as the primary culprit.
Chapman will be arraigned Wednesday at Merrimack County Superior Court.
