The New Hampshire Attorney General’s office isn’t releasing any new information about the police-involved shooting that temporarily shut down Interstate-89 in Hopkinton on Friday night.
An official with the AG’s office on Monday declined to provide new information about the incident, including the identity of the man who was shot and which officers were involved in the shooting.
“The investigation is still in the very early stages,” said Assistant Attorney General Geoffrey Ward.
State police spotted a car reported stolen from Vermont about 7 p.m. on I-89, the AG’s office reported Friday. The car stopped in Hopkinton, where a confrontation between several police officers and the adult male driver ensued. The man was shot, treated at the scene, and taken to a hospital. At the time, he was expected to survive. Updated information about his condition was not available Monday.
Ward also wouldn’t say which local agencies had responded to the incident, and whether the officer or officers involved in the shooting belonged to local police departments or state police. Investigators need to do ballistics work and interviews before that information can be released, he said.
It is unknown whether the man was armed.
“That’s not something I can comment on at this point,” Ward said.
