Scrapping for a spot in the finals in a crowded division, the Kearsarge girls’ lacrosse team turned to Leslie Angus for help and the junior delivered to earn the Monitor Player of the Week Award.
Angus netted five goals for the sixth-seeded Cougars in a 2-0 week to help the program reach the D-III title game for the second straight season. In a huge first-round win over defending champion Laconia, Angus stunned the Sachems with a double-overtime game-winner for the 7-6 win.
Needing to get past No. 2 Bow in the semifinals, the midfielder again rose to the occasion. Angus scored two more goals, allowing the Cougars to double up the Falcons, 8-4.
The performance helped Angus beat out Belmont baseball’s Cole Contigiani (complete-game shutout in quarterfinal win) and Hopkinton baseball’s Sam Crawford (7 IP, 12 K; two runs scored in quarterfinal win) for this week’s award.
