Clear your calendar because the Hatbox Theatre in Concord is hosting a pair of one-night-only shows that you won’t want to miss.
The fun begins on Friday night.
Laughta in New Hampsha will present a one-of-a-kind improv comedy show. Led by theater teaching artist Paige Johnson, the group of “newbies” will perform the comedy school’s first improv comedy showcase.
Johnson will act as host of the evening as Alina Abraham, Doris Ballard, Don Cramer, Karen Desmarais, Josh Hardy, Ed McMonagle, Cassandra Miller and Jon Wells act out unscripted sketches.
“This is going to be such a good showcase,” Johnson said in a statement. “This class is really great. I am so excited for the opportunity to teach this class and host the showcase. I love spreading the joy of improv to all ages because it is great for everyone.”
The show will be Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Hatbox Theatre. Tickets are $16.50 for adults and $13.50 for students, seniors and Hatbox members.
On Saturday, the burlesque troupe Absinthe and Opium Burlesque and Cabaret will tease crowds at the Concord theater.
The troupe is based in Concord and led by Jennifer Gordon and Roman Sirotin, who are trained ballroom dancers and teachers.
The show is influenced by vaudeville, musicals, Bob Fosse, ballroom dancing and jazz.
