The Concord Northeast U9 all-stars lost to Roger Allen of Rochester, 12-6, in the district tournament. Isaac Vaillancourt had eight strikeouts from the mound. Alex Turnat had a pair of hits. Nolan Wolff had a bases clearing double. Kale Washburn had a single and Patrick Owen played well on defense as the catcher.
The Concord Northeast Merrimack County Savings Bank 11U all-star team beat Hudson, 11-9, to advance to the next round of the East Area tournament in Londonderry. Nathaniel Johnson pitched four strong innings and Avery Vaillancourt closed the door in the last two innings to secure the win for Concord. Offensively, the entire team got involved, with Matt Hooper, Matt Jenness, and Nick Martel leading the way.
Fred LaFontaine was one of several bowlers representing the capital region in the New Hampshire Senior Games Candlepin Bowling Tournament on Sunday. LaFontaine, 90, from Concord earned a gold medal; Christina Gaudet-Pelletier, 68, of Concord also earned gold in the 65-69 age bracket; Dick Clement of Weare won silver in the men’s 70-74 age division; Webster’s Virginia King won silver in the women’s 70-74 age bracket; Rita Gonyer of Bow won gold in the women’s 75-79 division and Geri O’Brien of Pittsfield won silver; Dave Gazaway of Gilmanton won silver in the men’s 80-84 division; Charles Macomber of Bow won gold in the men’s 85-89 division and Larry Gonyer, also of Bow, won silver; Irene Bigelow of Concord won gold in the women’s 85-59 division and the silver went to Millie Becker of Chichester. “Being in this sport keeps you young, especially candlepin because it takes a lot of concentration,” said Fern Bissonette, 71, of Allenstown. Concord City “A” Men’s Tennis Tournament will be held at the Bow Brook Club from July 10-16. Singles and doubles competition is open to any male resident of Concord or its contiguous towns. Middle school basketball players are invited to join Concord High School boys’ basketball Coach David Chase for an evening of skills training and 3-on-3 scrimmages at the high school gym. UNH field hockey summer camps are now accepting registrations for summer: session II (Wednesday-Saturday) and a youth clinic (Thursday and Friday). Session II is open to junior high and high school students (as of fall 2017). There are overnight ($475) and commuter ($375) options for both sessions.
