Plenty of summer fun for kids is happening at the Boscawen Public Library this week. A “Make It and Take It Crafts” workshop for preschool and elementary-age kids and their parents will be held Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. Kids Storytime and Movement Yoga debuts on Wednesday at 11 a.m. It is free to preschool and elementary age kids and their parents. On Saturday, join us at Storytime, for stories of the season, favorite characters and simple crafts, which will start at 11 a.m. The Kids Book Club for first- through fifth-graders will start Thursday and will meet weekly from 1 to 2 p.m. through Aug. 3. Sign-ups for the club are requested. A Pajama Party with stories and snacks is planned for July 17 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Preschool and elementary school age children (with their parents) are invited to come to the party in their pajamas and even bring their teddy bear if they like.

BOWA flexible yoga schedule

Summer Yoga is starting at the Bow Community Center, 3 Bow Center Road. Hillsborough Center Congregational Church is pleased to present a special concert by the Concord Vocal Octet on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Eight members of the Concord Chorale, an auditioned chorus in Concord, started the Concord Vocal Octet in 1980. Over the years, the group has grown to its current number of 13 singers, but still retains the original name. The CVO performs mostly a cappella pieces that range from classical Baroque to pop. Many of the pieces in their repertoire have been composed and arranged for them by William Fletcher, a composer and former director of both the Concord Chorale and the CVO. This is a free concert. The Drake Field Summer Recreation Program is free to Pittsfield children in grades 1-8. High school students are welcome to join in and help for community service credit. Register your children for the Josiah Carpenter Library Summer Reading Program, “Build a Better World.” Children can register at the library anytime throughout the summer. Weekly activity and reading sessions for toddlers through first graders are held each Thursday at 10 a.m. in Dustin Park on Main Street. Activities for second graders and above will take place each Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Drake Field Recreation Program. The library is collecting half gallon cardboard milk/beverage cartons and one liter plastic water/beverage bottles (the kind that are relatively rigid) through July 21. They will be used during the summer reading program to create lawn bowling games and bird houses. If you use either one, we would be glad to have them when they are empty. The library will also be collecting ingredients for the summer reading program’s ice cream parties on Aug. 2 and 3. If you have sprinkles, bottles of syrup, etc., that are unopened but you will not be using, we would be glad to have those too!

Friday Night Kayak Group will meet every Friday at 6 p.m. at a different local location for a fun paddling trip. The group is open to everyone. The F.B. Argue Recreation Area is now open for the 2017 summer season. Hours are Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. The Recreation Area will stay open late until 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday nights for families during July (except for the weeks we are doing night lessons). Swimming lessons will be offered again this summer. Registration for swimming lessons will be held at the recreation area from noon to 5 p.m. We will run two two-week sessions. If there is enough interest, we will run a third session. The lessons will run for 20 to 30 minutes each day. Session one daytime lessons end on July 13 and session two runs July 21 to Aug. 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. The cost for swimming lessons for residents is $15 per child ($45 max per family) The daily admission for residents is $1 per person or a family season pass may be bought for $50. Daily admission for non-residents is $1.50 per person. All persons entering the area will be expected to pay. Children under five years old will be admitted for free with a paid adult. The Warner Historical Society’s Tory Hill Authors Series will be held on four summer evenings with nationally-known authors. The society is located at Warner Town Hall, 5 E. On July 22, Caldecott-winning illustrator and Vermont artist Mary Azarian, best known for Snowflake Bentley and her classic woodcut images.
