Sign of a Free Stater

I want to thank Rep. Dick Marple for shining some light on the N.H. Liberty Alliance. In his July 28 letter to the editor, Rep. Marple proudly shared his “liberty rating,” stating he will use that information for his re-election in 2018 and invited readers to check other representatives’ scores on the alliance website.

While the N.H. Liberty Alliance isn’t technically a part of the Free State Project, there likely wouldn’t be a N.H. Liberty Alliance without Free State Project participants. If readers aren’t already aware, the Free State Project is an effort to convince 20,000 Libertarians to move to New Hampshire and become politically active. More than 1,000 are here now.

The rub here is the type of persons willing to uproot their life and family to move to a state they otherwise have no connection to just to push their rigid ideological points of view on unsuspecting Granite Staters. Unsuspecting, since most Free State Project participants choose to keep their involvement to themselves, running instead as either Democrats or Republicans depending on the lean of the district they find themselves in.

This is why I’m thanking Rep. Marple for sharing information about the N.H. Liberty Alliance’s ratings. Anyone with a high rating, based on its criteria, is possibly a Free Stater. Perhaps that’s alright with you, but others might like to know if they’re being tricked.

So please, check the ratings: nhliberty.org.
