Jump Start is the summer transition program at John Stark Regional High School in Weare, open to all incoming ninth-grade students and returning tenth-grade students.
More than 35 students participated in Jump Start this summer.
“During the program students are introduced to technology resources including their John Stark email accounts, Google Docs, and Google Classroom,” said Summer School Coordinator and Jump Start Program Director Melissa Muzzy. “We also incorporate math, literacy, problem solving, and team activities to build collaboration and communication skills.”
Jump Start activities include pencil tasks, mental challenges, and hands-on application of knowledge through cooking and woodworking projects. Additionally, students participate in music classes, and are introduced to career counseling as well as learning to navigate the building, understand high school classes, and even bus schedules.
“Jump Start was created to help make the transition from middle to high school easier for those students who need that support. We want every student to be successful from day one,” said Mrs. Muzzy.
