Free Staters are domestic political refugees who have fled oppressive government policies of the left and right in other states and are here to work for true freedom in New Hampshire.
Free Staters know firsthand the destructive power government can have on people’s lives and understand how it can be managed to work for everyone.
To some it looks like Free Staters have been hiding their true political beliefs and are posing as Republicans or Democrats to get elected. In actuality, Free Staters have benefited from having their libertarian roots exposed, as shown by efforts of Democrats “exposing” libertarian-leaning candidates and then seeing those candidates win elections. Very few Free Staters are shy about disclosing their libertarian views.
What happened though was that the Libertarian Party was not recognized prior to the 2016 election and could not run on a party line. Libertarians have much in common with the left in terms of social issues and the right in terms of economic issues, so in many cases libertarian-leaning candidates ran as Democrats or Republicans in order to get on the ballot. Due to the success of Libertarians at the polls in the 2016 elections, the Libertarian Party is now be able to run on a party line in all 50 states, and have done so in recent special elections.
