The Weare fire department is investigating a fire that consumed a log home Monday evening and killed three dogs.
Nine communities responded to help Weare first responders when the two-alarm fire engulfed the home at 183 Hodgdon Road, a Weare Fire Rescue Department statement said. Water had to be trucked in from a pond several miles away.
The homeowner, who had returned home to discover the fire, re-entered the burning house in an attempt to save the dogs, according to the statement, but had to retreat because of toxic smoke.
No people were injured in the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
