I’ve consciously tried to cut down on mentioning the names of our 45th President, his cabinet, staff and members of a do-nothing Congress on both sides of the aisle.

All have been unable to work together for the benefit of the country. The behaviors of leaders in a wide range of institutions are symptoms of a much larger disease I like to refer to it as our vulture culture. All of us have conspired in tolerating corruption in government, business, education, entertainment, professional and amateur sports and the media, not only mainstream outlets but the vast networks in cyberspace that reach a far greater audience. Russian operatives, for example, have used the Internet to foment racial division and anti-immigrant sentiment around the world.

Each of us is exposed to daily hack attacks on our most personal and sensitive information.

In an attempt to cure the disease, many well intentioned voters elected a person who promised to drain the swamp but has only expanded and further polluted it. We have Cabinet members, for example, who have complained about government waste for years who now use public dollars for their private comfort and convenience.

The problem is not confined to government. We’ve learned, for example, that prominent college basketball programs have bribed young people to attend their institutions for the sake of winning at any cost. In the words of the Bible, what does it profit us to gain the world and lose our very soul?
