Goodwill Northern New England awarded Lyman Cousens, of Boscawen, the Spirit of Goodwill Award on Sept. 28 for the impact he made during more than a decade of service to the nonprofit.
“Lyman is always nudging us, inspiring us to do more,” said Anna Eleanor Roosevelt, Goodwill NNE’s CEO.
The award is given to the person who brings Goodwill’s mission to life, helping people achieve personal stability and community engagement. In his nine years on the volunteer board of directors, Cousens helped improve employee safety, encouraged the nonprofit’s expansion of services in New Hampshire, advocated in Washington, D.C., and more.
“He’s never said no when we’ve asked for help. He’s continually helped us look at situations from a range of different angles to provoke good thinking,” said Mary Baumgartner, the chair of the board. “Lyman Cousens cares about people and he walks his talk.”
Cousens served on Goodwill’s volunteer board of directors from 2007 through 2016. He served on the Sustainability and Governance committees, as well as chairing the Quality Committee.
